There are many things to do in Carvoeiro and the surrounding area, here are a few ideas...

Algar Seco
Algar Seco is situated to the west of Carvoeiro beach.  By car, go up Estrada do Farol and turn
right at Primavera restaurant, Algar Seco is on your left, if you are on foot, walk up the hill to the
left of Carvoeiro beach (past the GNR) and follow the headland round, Algar Seco is on your
right.  At the bottome of a long flight of steps you will find 'A Boneca' restaurant and a
magnificent view of the coastline where the rocks have been eroded by the sea over the years.

Beaches (Click here for a map showing the locations of the local beaches)
There are many beautiful beaches around Carvoeiro, of course the main Carvoeiro beach, but
also
Paraiso beach, up the hill towards Monte Carvoeiro on the left hand side.  There is a lovely
restaurant at the top, but over 100 steps down to the beach

Benagil beach, follow the Benagil road and you will arrive at Benagil beach, this one is not
reached by steps as the road curves down towards the beach

Carvalho beach, follow Estrada do Farol past the Hotel Almansor and Rocha Brava and
towards Clube Atlantico, at the end of the road you will find the entrance to Carvalho beach
which again has many steps leading down to the beach.  This is also known as smugglers beach
as it is reached through a tunnel.

Centeanes beach is on the right hand side past the Almansor Hotel.

Caneiros beach is situated on the road to Ferragudo, through Sesmarias

Praia Grande is a little further than Caneiros and is probably the biggest beach nearby, it is
popular with windsurfers.

On most of the beaches fishermen offer boat trips around the coastline and through the caves
which are only accessible from the sea.

Water Parks and Days Out
There are 2 water parks close to Carvoeiro.  Slide and Splash is about 10 minutes by car at
Estombar , and
The Big One is about 20 minutes away at Porches.  Zoomarine and the Sand
Sculptures are also popular days out.

Jeep Safari  Tel (351) 289 586 860
A jeep safari around the Algarve is a popular day out and can be booked through one of the
travel agents/car hire offices in Carvoeiro.

Golf
Carvoeiro has 3 golf courses Vale do Milho 282 358 502, Vale de Pinta and Quinta do
Gramacho
282 340 900.  Vale do Milho is a 9-hole par 3 course which is situated close to the
entrance to Rocha Brava.  Pinta and Gramacho are both situated to the east of Carvoeiro, near
Sesmarias and are both 18 hole courses which will challenge most golfers.

Silves
Silves is about 12km inland of Carvoeiro, follow the signs through Lagoa.  Silves is an ancient
Moorish town with a ruined castle, which affords wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.

Shopping
There is a shopping centre 'Algarve Shopping' on the main EN125 at Guia about 20 minutes
drive from Carvoeiro.  There is a large variety of shops and restaurants plus a cinema (English
language films with Portuguese subtitles) and a 10 pin bowling alley.

Portimao is also good for shopping, and has an interesting working harbour for boat trips, or to
watch the fisherment landing their catches.  There are many restaurants offering freshly caught
sardines.

Tennis
There are 2 tennis courts at Monte Dourado, contact reception for information, and Carvoeiro
Tennis Club, 282 357 847 which offers court hire, tuition, aerobics, gym, swimming pool and
